Pascal Briggs performing an early accoustic version of a new song ‘No More Hallelujahs’. It’s an outtake from a videoshoot made in Hasselt by our good friend Benjamin from Acid Press.

Keep your eyes on the events calendar. We’ll do our best to get mister Briggs in Tune Up for a live set.

In June Tune Up welcomed 2 bands in the Tune Up Sundays serie.
Keefman (June 20th) & That Band From Holland (June 27th) played a short live set to promote their new albums.

The Rare Roots Records – a drawn history of black music
4th of July – 29th of August
opening: July 4th, 14:00 – 18:00
@ Tune Up
Melkmarkt 17
Antwerp

Andreas Peeters was born in Leuven, and left the university town at the age of eighteen. He studied Illustrative Design at Sint Lucas Antwerp, and spent one year at the Animation department of the Royal Arts College in Ghent. He currently lives and works in Antwerp, and combines teaching with his atelier work and an academic philosophy course. His work is a combination of drawings, paintings, photography and video. Music manifests itself as the main inspiration of his work.
At this very moment he is working on the musical documentary Reason, which portrays the underground of the Belgian reggae-scene.

At Tune Up Andreas will present his project “The Rare Roots Records – a drawn history of black music”

“These series are a tribute.

They bundle up six years of inspiration which comes from a journey through black music – from the first time I left London with bags full of vinyl, until the day I had the privilege to talk to some of these musicians in person. Some of these drawings are inspired by record covers or found photography, some by pictures I took on concerts, some came right out of my head. I want to express my gratitude to those musicians, for they have kept me drawing and offered me a project. Their message has intentionately been neglected for years by radiostations and TV, for it tells the half that has never been told.
A few of these images might appear to you as iconic, as they are rooted in the dark origins of Rastafarianism. I do not share this belief and I hope these images reach an unprejudiced eye. They represent a heritage too valuable to sacrifice to a mentality that is omnipresent today : the idea that whatever becomes popular, should claim all attention from the people. What is presented to us today as eclectic, results from an unrespectful attitude towards the roots of this music. I hope these pictures might encourage you to dig and find these roots, that they will make you take your time to truly listen.”

27/06: That Band from Holland live – 15h

That Band from Holland was formed in the summer of 2006 in Rotterdam, Holland.

Eric and Michiel teamed up to write and record some of their first ideas after being involved in various experimental noise bands. The sound of TBFH is a compromise between a lot of genres that come from the different backgrounds of the members and is also recognised for the use of old, useless and sometimes forgotten instruments In 2009 the fun finally began after playing various shows, including a UK Tour, and the release of their self recorded debut album…
