Record Fare Brooklyn

Its been a long time since I went to a record fare, I guess I am a bit out of the circulation. So when Michel asked me to go I was actually immediately up for it. Dragged my azz out of bed early Sunday morning, got to Brooklyn Lorimer-stop round 10am, obviously got lost and somehow ended up at the Warsaw center by 10h30am. I was surprised that the center was so small, I expected a much bigger place. But this was definitely one of those rare occasions where “size doesn’t matter”. Either that or it was my first cookie after not haven eaten cookies for a long time. I left with Lalo Schifrin, Spencer Davis Group, Steve Miller, Zepplin, a Groove Merchant and several others in my bag, Michel had bout 10’s of kilos of goodies in the bags, so be on the lookout for that. It was a good day, tired, but a good day.

Did my first set in a while. My bud Haz and his friend Darren were throwing a party in Darren’s loft on the west side in midtown (sweeeet pad). I opened up the evening to warm up the place with some smelly hot phunck, u know, introduce people a little bit to the roots before Fabien’s awesome set of more contemporary Hip Hop/RnB/Club. Was good to spin some tunes again for a crowd, great location, I love to play for small parties and inside crowds like that. Should have taken some pix but no camera as usual. Good looking out and be on the lookout: Vintagecrew bout to take over NYC. Thanks for the invite guys, great party.

Last weekend, september 20th I visited the 19th semi-annual 45/78 RPM Record Expo which took place in Allentown. The rarest 45’s and 78’s in genres like blues, r’nb, r’nr, country, jazz, garage, … were to be found there. Although I’m sure that the rarest copies are posted on e-bay, it was still worth visiting the show. Especially in the soul and r’nb section there were nice records to be found for fair prices. Too bad that UK sellers overpriced their stuff, again. Anyway, when you’re into the 45’s this is still the place to be. Next show will take place in the spring of 2009, we’ll post exact dates in due date in our events calendar.

If you can’t make it over there, post your wish list on our site and will dig for you!

You can join now also the Vintagecrew group on facebook.

Just posted two pictures of Michel and Piet on the road in the US last year. 2 October these hot bods leave again, to cruise from the east coast to the west coast in a van, skimming every single record shop, fair and fifties party on their way. If not covered by MTV, we’ll cover it all on Facebook. I promiss it will be a lively forum!

Jimmy McGriff is a very versatile musician/organist, something he demonstrates very well on this Solid State release. I think his versatility is his calling card when compared to Jimmy Smith or Richard “Groove” Holmes. It’s records like these that have taught me to step outside the funky groove cuts. Obviously I bought this record for the title track “The Worm” and the funky “Blue Juice”, but listening to the record a couple of times u learn to appreciate the bluesy and jazzy organ-tunes this record carries. Recommendar for all u funksters who wanna try something else. If u absolutely only want the funky cuts then try his very-difficult-to-find records “Electric Funk” or “Groove Grease”.

I wouldn’t know

Apparently this record “Wild Flower” by Houston Person is not even half that bad. To tell u the truth I seriously wouldn’t know, never listend to it. I simply like the cover picture:
